Good morning, and in today's Factwire you will get a faster and cheaper Claude for everyday work, a voluntary AI safety pledge with the White House, and Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery set to become Skydance.
Claude Sonnet 5.5 is faster and cheaper for everyday work
Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5.5 on September 28, 2026. It runs more than 30 percent faster than Claude Sonnet 5, and it costs up to 30 percent less for most work. Anthropic built it for everyday tasks with a clear scope, such as bug fixes and polished documents, slides, and spreadsheets. Opus 5.5 is still the model for complex work that needs careful judgment.
What this means for you: If you use Claude for a draft, a few slides, a spreadsheet, or a small bug fix, try Sonnet 5.5. It should be faster, and most of that work should cost less than on the last Sonnet.

Six tech leaders signed a voluntary AI safety pledge
On September 29, 2026, Dario Amodei of Anthropic, Greg Brockman of OpenAI, Sundar Pichai of Google, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Elon Musk of xAI, and Jensen Huang of Nvidia signed the Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities, a voluntary accord with the White House. The text says the steps matter even if they are not required, and it sets no deadline.
What this means for you: This pledge does not change your app settings, and it does not force the companies to act by a set date.

Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery will become Skydance
Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery will operate as Skydance once their merger closes. On October 2, TechCrunch reported the deal is expected to close on October 6, 2026, and the report did not say it had already closed.
What this means for you: Treat October 6 as the planned close. As of October 4, Skydance was not yet the merged company.
